Advanced SQL Server 2008 R2: Managing and Monitoring Database Server Deployment
This three-day instructor-led 300-level course provides students with the knowledge and skills to help efficiently manage their Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 database server. The Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Manageability features include: policy-based management, storage optimization, resource governance, and automating administrative tasks. Various best practices and methodologies are demonstrated within the demos and the lab exercises with special emphasis on managing and maintaining large databases greater than 10TB. The students will especially benefit from the depth of the content covered in the course.

This module explains Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Management Tools and their features.
Module 2: Managing SQL Server Databases
This module explains how to perform common and specialized database administrative tasks such as the design and management of database files, filegroups, transaction log space management, and Backup and Restore Strategies. It also provides details on log shipping, managing replicated and mirror databases, and the impact of backup and restore on other Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 features. Finally, due consideration is given to multi-tera byte databases, and database upgrade.
Module 3: Managing SQL Server Objects
This module explains the various techniques to manage various database objects, and maintain indexes. Understand and manage partitioned tables and indexes. Deploy and manage CLR Assemblies, Full-text catalogs, and Change Data Capture and Change Tracking objects.
Module 4: Managing Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Security
This module explains the various techniques to manage database- and instance-level security, keys and certificates.
Module 5: Managing TempDB
This module explains the various techniques to manage TempDB contention and storage.
Module 6: Managing SQL Server Instances
This module explains how to manage local and remote database servers, perform server maintenance tasks, optimize the database instance configuration, and manage SQL Server services. The module also describes SQL Server Upgrades and Patch Management.
Module 7: Enforcing policies and best practices
This module explains how to enforce policies and administer servers using policy-based management.
Module 8: Workload Governance in Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2
This module explains how to perform workload governance using Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 features. This module focuses on NUMA, Virtualization and Resource Governor.
Module 9: Managing Data
This module explains how to perform data management using Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 features such as partitioned tables, and data compression. The module will describe bulk import and export considerations and data aging considerations. This module also covers topics such as initializing replication subscriptions, Filestream data, spatial data, and XML data types.
Module 10: Manage Performance Data
This module explains how to perform Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Performance Data Management. The topics discussed are Management Data Warehouse, Extended Events, SQL Server Alerts and Operators, and Utility Control Point.
